One of the most common causes of heel pain is plantar fasciitis. Plantar Fasciitis involves inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your feet and connects your heel bone to your toes.
A common symptom of plantar fasciitis is; when you feel stabbing pain that usually happens in the morning with your first steps. Once you start moving more, the pain will decrease however, the pain may return after long periods of standing or after you rise up from sitting for a long time.
Plantar Fasciitis is most common in runners. Also, people who are overweight or wear shoes with inadequate support are also at an increased risk of plantar fasciitis. Pain from planter fasciitis is usually worse after exercise rather than during exercise.
In our next post Dr. Moore will share more about the causes & risk factors of plantar Fasciitis.
